The 2002 National Survey of Family Growth reported that 5.3% of all US women aged 15 through 44 currently using contraception used DMPA.1 Among contraceptors, 13.9% of those aged 15 to 19 and 10.1% of those aged 20 to 24 currently used DMPA compared with 1.6% of those aged 40 to 44.1 Decreasing rates of adolescent pregnancy between 1995 and 2002 are considered to be due in part to increased use of some method of contraception, including DMPA, by this age group.2-5 Advantages of DMPA Use
